WordPress or Magento

I have been told so many things about both but which should i choose and just as importantly why?

Typically when discussing the requirments between the two it would depend on the business and what needs and budget that business has.

Woocommerce I always recommend to those with a budget of less than £15,000 and a smaller range of products and variations.

Likewise if there is going to be a need to customise or have special functions its worth weighing up those future needs, as Magento developement and custom addons cost alot more to purchase and to support than their Woocommerce equivalents.

Other aspects such as SEO, quaunty of products, PCI compliance requirements, card processing requirements all need to be considered so its often a case of assessing each case/store to come to the conclusion.

What platform are you siding with ? What do you think your main requirements budget ranges maybe ?

I have always been a WordPress man but that is because its all I have ever really known since I started out online. Do you have a questionnaire type post which might point newbies in the direction of the right software package for them?

A lot of small businesses going online for the first time wont have a clue where to look and which packages are best for them

I am not necessarily suggesting that WordPress is better than all of the other CMS on the market BUT no other CMS can even come near the array af plug-ins, designs, etc on the market for WordPress users. Obviously this is because it is open source but that element is as important as the CMS package in many ways.

If you’re selling a product or a service you can’t really go wrong with either platform. That said, it makes sense to use Magento if you’re a medium to large sized business interested in creating large enterprise-class online stores. Magento has the built-in security, API robustness, and quality control enterprises desire. If the marketing of your products and services are heavily dependent on content marketing, WordPress with a full-featured e-commerce plugin such as Woocommerce is the better solution.

Wordpress is an excellent platform, and you can install the shop plugin Woocommerce. Magento it's more complicated but good too.

I develop in both. Here are the facts.

If you have deep pockets or competent developer skills and patience (plus many, many products) use Magento.

if you have a few products (couple hundred),want quick expansion, and on a budget use WordPress.

Magento you will be at teh mercy of your developer whereas Wordpress usually has plugins that are cost effective (sometime poorly written though).
