Backlinks: what they are and why they matter

Backlinks are links from other websites pointing to your site. Search engines treat them a bit like “votes” — a relevant, trustworthy site linking to you can signal that your page is worth showing higher in results.

They matter because they can:
  • Improve rankings (especially when links come from reputable, relevant sites)
  • Send referral traffic (people click through and become leads/customers)
  • Build credibility for a brand, which is handy for UK SMEs competing locally

Quality beats quantity. A few links from respected industry bodies, local press, suppliers, or partners usually outperform lots of low-quality directory or spam links.

Backlinks are basically links from other websites pointing to your site. They can help with SEO because search engines may treat relevant, trustworthy links as a signal that your content is worth checking out. Quality and relevance matter way more than just building a huge number of random links(((
