’m doing some research into how UK SMEs manage cybersecurity when they don’t have a dedicated security team.
I’m particularly interested in things like:
I’m looking for genuine views, including negative ones. I’m not trying to prove that businesses need a particular product, and there’s no sales call required afterwards.
If you’re a UK business owner, director, manager, or the person who somehow became “the IT/security person” in a small company, I’d really appreciate your input.
Happy to also discuss the topic in the comments.

- What part of cybersecurity is genuinely difficult for your business?
- Do security tools give you useful actions, or mostly more alerts/information?
- How do you know what needs fixing first?
- Is the main barrier cost, time, expertise, complexity, trust, or something else?
- Would clearer prioritised recommendations actually be useful?
