Just finished reading a really interesting publication on branding and instantly thought it might be just as interesting to you lot! :)

Day of the clones

Some really intersting ideas and case studies in it too.

That's a really good article and point. Building a brand is about so much more than a logo and a name, it's about ethos, attitude, and yes being different.

Excellent article with virtually nothing in it I do not agree with.

Of the many things in life that have confused me and continue to confuse me branding is one of them.

Of course I understand that if you get it right you can add huge value and the brand itself can become a very valuable thing.

What really confuses me is when I see lots of small to medium sized businesses focusing on branding and spending fair sums of hard cash on branding without the business plan behind it that justifies the spend and tells me that they are going to become the size of business where the brand adds large value.

Obviously in the ideal world all businesses would get the correct branding and transaction models working in partnership to enhance the business.

Branding scares me because I find it hard to measure at the level most if not all of us on here operate at.

My personal actions probably come into it as well and enhance my confused outlook as I purchase virtually nothing based on brand. I cannot think of anything I have purchased in the last few years that was brand driven.
