I'm telling this story because with hindsight, it makes me very proud.
We've just launched a website for a local company here in Moray called ScrubVac, one of the largest suppliers of cleaning equipment, spares and accessories in the UK.
They came to us in late 2009 looking for a quote. I naturally responded and was please to be invited to their depot before submitting an estimate.
There are always some 'unknown quantities' when preparing quotes, but you always try and account for everything and make sure there are disclaimers in case of errors of judgement.
What transpired with ScrubVac was that they had a catalogue over three times the size of B&Q. The DIY giant boasts 12,000 products available online. ScrubVac presented me with a list of over 40,000.
During the process of building the site and stocking the database, we wrote a plug-in to import manufacturers' price lists, so that updating all the prices in future will only take ten minutes.
It was also an opportunity to test our ecommerce software on this huge product list. If it can cope with a stock of 40,000, it can cope with anything.
And at the end of the day, the quoted price held good, and we delivered the product on time and to specification.
One of the the reasons I'm saying all this is that, following the site's launch on Monday, the managing director wrote some very complimentary comments for our blog.
ScrubVac ecommerce site handles over 40,000 products with ease | Canary Dwarf, Moray's web design specialists
At this point I would like to say that anyone needing cleaning equipment, spares or accessories, this is the place to buy them: Nilfisk parts and accessories | ScrubVac Cleaning Equipment - Nilfisk Equipment and Spares at your service
So despite being a very small company, we proved we are able to meet deadlines, deliver above-the-line products and impress clients by meeting their needs.
Am I touting for business? You bet, customer testimonials are the best advertising you can get and our relationship with this client is one we want to duplicate for everyone who comes to us.
