Honest answer: some people would, but not many at the moment, and the listing itself is part of the problem.

A £4.99 price point is fine. It's impulse territory and nobody needs to think hard about it. The issue is that the people most likely to buy are owner-operators of small cleaning rounds, and a good chunk of them price jobs in their head or on their phone, not in Excel. The ones who do use spreadsheets can find free quote templates with a quick search. So the product needs a reason to exist beyond "it's a spreadsheet that does maths".

Things that would actually shift copies
  • Lead with the outcome, not the features. "Stop underquoting and losing money on travel time" lands harder than a tick list of inputs.
  • Show the preview up front. "Message me to see it" is a hurdle, and most browsers won't bother. Put screenshots or a short screen recording in the listing.
  • Make it UK-specific in a visible way. Hourly rate benchmarks by region, mileage at the HMRC 45p rate, a note on VAT once someone is nearing the threshold. That's content a generic template doesn't have.
  • Consider a Google Sheets version too. A lot of small operators run everything from a phone and don't own Excel.
  • Sell it where cleaners already are: Etsy, a Facebook group for domestic cleaning businesses, or a simple Gumroad or Payhip page. A forum post here will reach very few of your actual buyers.

Two practical points on the money side
Sales of a digital download are trading income. If total self-employed income stays under £1,000 in the tax year the trading allowance covers it, otherwise it's a sole trader registration and Self Assessment. Also be aware that selling digital products directly to consumers in the EU creates a VAT obligation there from the first sale, with no threshold. Using a marketplace like Etsy sidesteps that because they handle the VAT. Worth factoring in before choosing where to list.

Would be worth posting a couple of screenshots here, people will give much sharper feedback once they can see what's inside.

Honest answer: some would, but £4.99 digital products live or die on volume, so I'd validate demand properly before polishing anything.

I'd start by checking what people actually search for. Type things like "cleaning quote template UK" into Google and see what ranks. If template sites and Etsy listings are showing up, that's a decent sign there's real search demand. Then go straight to where your buyers are: UK cleaning business Facebook groups. Ask how they currently price jobs and whether they'd pay for something faster. Five honest answers there are worth more than any guesswork.

One more thing: sell the outcome, not the spreadsheet. Your pitch should be "quote a job in 60 seconds and look professional" rather than "automatic calculation template". And consider a free basic version to collect email addresses first — that list becomes your ready-made audience when you launch the paid version.
