I can see where your coming from Heather, although I honestly feel I would get more work done and be more efficient in an office rather than attempting to work from home. Especially with three bored kids running riot through the summer holidays! I just can't justify the cost, most office units to let up here start at about

"...If those businesses are successful, we will gain when they start paying rent, and the city will gain from an increase in economic activity..."

Yes of course the economy of the city will increase...I just wonder how honest some business will be about their businesses when the good time role in. Lets see FREE rent = money in pocket...!!

Also a business no matter how small needs to learn the discipline of managing its cost and of course for many businesses paying a rent is a standard thing.

I think agree with Heather, I don't think they should be giving away FREE rental properties...what I think is a heavily subsidised or discounted, increasing in scale rent for the first three years would have been a fairer system.

I can recall a number of years back...I'll need to look up the details...a scheme called the Scottish Development Initiative (Don't Quote me on that),...which offered discounted rents/rates to business in areas which needed some form of development or regeneration.

Back in the years when I was applying for jobs I used to be very insistent with recruiters on where jobs were located. The answer "Glasgow" was never enough. More often than not, me being pushy and insistent revealed that "Glasgow" was East Kilbride or "the city centre" was Cathcart, etc. It's amazing how many "easily accessible office premises" turn out to be industrial estates guarded by rottweilers.
