I've recently signed up for Twitter and run the TSF RSS feed through it so people can keep up to date with the forums and Third Sector news straight from Twitter.

Still getting my head round some of the features but I'm getting there.

You can have a peek here: Twitter / ThirdSectorLab

Please forgive me for being more than a little sceptical. How do you actually find the time to do all this? The idea of tweeting people a few times each day to let them know what I am doing is frankly ludicrous. It seems nothing more than a popularity contest and seems all about trying to get as many people as possible to follow you.

The RSS side I guess is an interesting concept but I wonder if this is mostly not UK based. I think for me I would rather be concentrating on creating content. If someone can show me what benefits they get i'm more than prepared to eat my words. :p

I Twitter from time to time and at first I couldnt see the advantage of it, just another hyped up web 2.0 app but I have seen the light and twitter-like communication tools are here to stay. Think of Twitter or similar webapps like pownce as Instant Messaging on steroids rather than micro-blogging as it is often called. When I worked at IBM 10 years ago they used Lotus notes instant messaging internally for communications and I have to say that it was amazing compared to email. We still had email but mostly we all used IM as it was quicker and easier and you could have conversations with multiple people at the same time. Im surprised that email has lasted so long within companies as their primary means of communication. But when you look at kids today, none of them use email much, its all IM and that's the way I see it continuing. Twitter has its problems and actually isnt the best but it has reached critical mass with the technorati and recently knocked back a $150 million offer to buy it from Facebook so that tells you something. The thing about Twitter is it only really becomes useful once you are following people you know or people you are interested in knowing, until that happens its rubbish.
