I use them as a business tools, and have made money on both of them.

I've been trying to get into twitter (third attempt now) and linked up Facebook and Twitter for easier management - wasn't sure at first but working well now. Getting a few hits through to my site from it too.

I use Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I post to them all in one using Ping.fm. Check it out, a useful tool if you have lots of social media accounts to update. Quite a time saver. Have also had some business through connections made on these networks.

Yeah I have to admit that I use Twitter and LinkedIn more than FaceBook. They are both great as buisness tools

Ok rather than start another thread about twittering I will just use this one.

Is there some kind of tool or search facility that allows people to find you when you mention something that you are doing. Today I noticed someone on my page being Followed by someone that does plumbing just because she was waiting on a plumber. I am now also being followed by someone who has a huge amount of interest in the supernatural because I mentioned that I was off to see psychics in training tonight. What is it they are using or are they just sitting on their computers reading every single tweet being made?

I'm still not great with Twitter but I think if you talk about something on Twitter (for example the Apprentice),after you have posted, do a quick search for that word and you will appear in the result stream.

If you are using a seperate Twitter client application like TweetDeck or Seesmic etc there is a search facility built in. To search twitter directly through the website go to http://search.twitter.com and fill your boots! The search is carried out as close to real time as possible so it will pick up tweets within the last few minutes.

Great for finding possible clients or freelance work - your plumber chap probably did a search for "looking for plumber" or something. Really powerful tool if used correctly.

I have Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, and use none of them as much as i should. I actually have three twitter accounts, a personal one which directly updates my facebook account, one for business which I don't use as much as i should, and another which I expect to be using very heavily shortly as it's central to a web project nearing completion.

Just go to Sign up and use Twitter on Facebook | Facebook and let facebook install the app.

Yes, there is a danger of duplicating content, but your customers/friends/viewers will probably only follow you on one of your networks, so having several options gives you increased options of visibility. Perhaps the best way of avoiding embarrassment in this scenario is to say "follow me on Twitter, facebook OR (not and) LinkedIn", and let your audience make the decision which, while benefitting from presence on all three.
