Who do you rate for sales advice?

Having made the move back to a slightly higher pressure level of sales it has made me look at how sales techniques have changed and developed over time. If you are at all involved in the sales game (and lets face it most small business owners are without realising it!) what books or websites do you rate, and who has given you the advice that has worked best?

I am more than aware that what works in some markets won't work as well in others, but keeping things in general terms can we help each other out and create a little resource pointing to books or websites etc that will help us out in our quest for success? :)

For example I have been recommended a book by Alfred Tack called 'Increase Your Sales the Tack Way', has anybody every come across this book and if so what did you make of it?

I managed to find this book through an amazon seller, it arrived yesterday and I have started on it already - will let you know what I make of it soon!

Can I ask, what is it that you think you are missing out on with your current technique?
'Close the deal' is based on the Sandler technique however, if you want proper help you need to get to the bottom of your problems and what your objectives are.

Thanks Marcus,

It's not so much that I am having any 'problems' as much as that I am keen to be the best at everything I do! :) I am aware that certain approaches that would have worked ten years ago are not received as well these days.

Added to that I am at work in a region that is well known for it's rather anti-salesman attitude. That being the case it is not so much the close I am looking at so much as the initial approach and foot in the door techniques.

As with every challenge I take on, I like to look into any ways that will help me perform to the best of my ability - always happy to hit the books, read through websites, watch webcasts and online tutorials etc.

I am very grateful of your offer for some assistance, so keep an eye on your inbox! :p

Thanks again.

I've just finished a couple of books by the American sales trainer Stephen Schiffman - 'The 25 sales habits of highly successful salespeople' and 'Cold calling techniques (that really work!)'.

I got stuck in to these before I finished the Alfred Tack book as they are both far more modern and come highly recommended on Amazon. I'm glad I did!

The first of the two is a small pocket book style affair that is easily read in a couple of hours. It will remain on my desk as a reminder of good (if not common sense!) habits. :)

The cold calling book is an inspiration to me, in a part of sales that I never particularly enjoyed before now! It explains in detail some proven techniques that help not only book appointments, but not to come across as one of those slimey salesmen that everyone expects. :D

I would recommend both of these for sure, and am about to start on the third book of Stephen's that I bought at the same time - 'The 250 sales questions to close the deal' - anytime now.
