Setting up a Limited company online

I am going to set up a Limited Company for myself, as a sole owner. An accountant quoted me a good amount of money to do it. I have seen a number of online companies who say they help you do it for a fixed fee depending on the 'package' you buy. The can charge form only £12 to £200.

I have even found some of these companies in the TrustPilot reviews with several reviews. I do not want to put the names here in case I am accused of promoting companies but, if somebody tells me it is OK to do so, I can mention them.

Are they reliable or just cowboys looking for easy money?

Has anybody here used them?

Recommendations/referrals welcome

Have used these guys multiple times over the years, from company formations, yearly statements etc. Can't complain, often done within 24 hours. Perfect for someone like me who wants to be completely hands off.

It would be much easier if you did indicate which companies you are interested in.

Most online formation companies are legitimate, and a low-cost package is usually fine if you want to set up a limited company as a single director. You can also register directly with Companies House on GOV.UK for a small government fee, so you don’t need an accountant just to incorporate. Before paying an agent, check exactly what’s included, since add-ons and renewals for things like the registered office address can push the cost up. Trustpilot reviews are a start, but read the recent mixed ones rather than just the star rating.

Whichever route you take when setting up a private limited company, make sure you are listed as the director and hold your own Companies House login and authentication code, so you aren’t dependent on the agent later. Remember that your registered office and director details appear on the public register, and that directors now need to verify their identity. After incorporation, you’ll also need to register for Corporation Tax with HMRC, and a short chat with an accountant is worth it for year-end accounts.
