Screen goes dark

I'm using IE8 and on some websites, especially ones with dark backgrounds, my screen goes dark when I land on them. It's really annoying and I don't know if it's an IE8 thing or it's my monitor. Anyone shed any light?

Is this only happening with I.E?

I could only see it being a problem with the backlights if otherwise and it was doing it on other programmes... Have you tried plugging the monitor into a different computer? Or viewing the same sites in (say) Firefox?

I found the answer to this today when I was colour calibrating my monitor. I usually just turn on the software and let it run. Today I watched it going through the process and some of the darker colours that were being measured made the monitor go dark. After much searching, I found out that my monitor has something called magicbright built in. This attempts to keep the brightness of the screen consistent but on sites with a lot of black the screen goes dark. I've switched it off now so everything is now hunky dory.
