Quick Questions about your SEO article buying habits

Hello

I'm conducting some research for my business. Could anyone involved in the SEO business answer a couple of quick questions? If you want to pm me the answers instead, that's fine.

How essential is fresh original content for your work?

How much would you generally pay for an SEO article?

When choosing an SEO writer, what's the most important thing?

I know you're all really busy, but I would be really grateful if you could answer these!

Best Wishes

Hi Mark,

Our blog site has a section dedicated to SEO etc. I think on a blog site fresh and of course original content is paramount to it's success.

I haven't bought many articles but I would imagine the main model would be based on the number of words but thinking about it it's probably quite hard to put a real value on it, the only other way I can think would be based on hours but that poses problems as to how to verify it.

In terms of choosing someone i'd want to make sure that they had a very good grasp of English and a good knowledge of the subject. I hope this helps :)

Adding fresh content is essential for the longevity of your website in the search engines.

Sometimes I feel the value of fresh content can be over emphasised. Don't get me wrong, fresh content invariably is good for SEO but it isn't essential to good rankings. Many websites rank very well without any changes at all, although I do agree with Kevin that in the long term refreshing is required.

Quality of content is IMHO more important, so answering the "how much should you pay for articles question" is more difficult. I believe that you need someone who knows the industry to write content. Observationally it seems that content written by the expert themselves tends to fair much better than outsourced content. Look inside your business first if you can, failing that employ a writer and give them the time to immerse themselves in your industry and/or spend time with you.

I would agree fresh content has to ad value, if you ad lots of pages with no value it won

Mark - apologies I didn't really see where your post was coming from with my first response, so to answer your third question:

When choosing an SEO writer, what's the most important thing?

For me it has to be industry knowledge. A track record of writing articles in the field would likely win me over every time. If I was setting up an SEO article creation business I would seek to specialise in a field.

It's worth emphasising the "articles" part when writing for SEO. This as you will know is a very different skill to writing sales copy which is what we would be looking to employ for writing PPC landing pages. In SEO you typically want to be writing authoritative thought leadership pieces.

One skill of an SEO writer is to be able to tell when the client doesn't understand his keyword universe. Much better to ask for keyword conversion data before asking them about their target keywords.

If any SEO writer mentioned keyword density, I would politely show them the door!

Another service that you might want to offer would be article generation management and editing. It would be your job to work with your client to get them to write (or talk and then you write) articles which you then edit before release.

The best way is to write the articles yourself you understand your industry better than anyone. Then get the SEO company to edit it and submit it to the relevent websites. When writing an article write it for the visitor and keep seo in mind.
