New website coming soon...from the PLC...but...

[Power Lunch Club]

Hello folks, looking for some guidance and the experiance of other in this field.

In the next couple of weeks the new look Power Lunch Club (PLC) website will coming on stream. Which I am both pleased and excited about...(which will also stop people phoning/emailing me to tell me what's wrong with the old one...I know already).

But to finance it we are starting to look for companies to promote themselves on it. I don't like to use the word sponsor here as I want companies to realise this is an opportunity to get their business profile on a highly successful platform.

Along with the development of the website we will be launching several new cities in the next coming months. So the marketing for it will be intense. I have been spending the last 6 month building up the PLC in Edinburgh and that has been a resounding success for which I am very pleased. We have been attracting latterly nearly 60 businesses at our recent events. (The next event is heading the same way).

So I am clear in my mind as to what is happening with the website and how it can truly benefit clients, but looking for advice as how much to charge and also on the look out for potential introduction for business who want make sure their profile is out there for a year at least?

What you charge really depends on a combination of two things:

1) What level of exposure will ads get - i.e. what sort of traffic does your site get. Total number of visits per week/month and percentage of new visits


2) The size, type and placement of the ad itself. Will it be a banner or skyscraper ad, will it be a static display or rotating ad, how long will it be displayed for, etc, etc.

I can forward you a comprehensive advertising agreement I got from a webmaster when I ran some banner adverising ads for another website I own that could prove helpful. If you want a copy just let me know.

PS, it includes rates albeit in US Dollars, but will give you a pretty good idea what a PR4 site getting pretty decent traffic charges.

I think that given your existing market is businesses who want to promote themselves to other businesses then sponsorship is a good way to go. What I would want to know is how many people are likely to be looking at the site and what will they see when they do?

If I was to be a sponsor will I get a banner ad for a period of time or do I get my branding all over a section of the site? Will I get my logo in emails you are sending out? What happens after the first year has passed? Is this sponsorship to be ongoing in terms of financial commitment?

Will your existing and new clients be put off by lots of branding? Are you better having a directory of members on the site with paid-for listings which are bigger and include logos, links etc.?

Okay

Sorry for being negative here, not my normal way. But why would you want to have people advertising on your site? ( forums excepted ) advertising on a site devalues the site ( yes I know some serious brand names get away with it but small business do not)

For the money you will make stop putting any brain power behind it you will make much more by using your brain else where.

Do not do it you will be disappointed and you will not encourage potential clients.
