News Navigating UK→EU FBA Shipments in 2025 – Lessons from the Trenches

Hi everyone,

Long-time member here (mostly lurking since 2023!). I run a small electronics biz selling EU-plug devices, and like many of you, I’ve been wrestling with post-Brexit FBA logistics. After months of trial/error (and costly mistakes),here’s what finally worked for our Spain-bound shipments – sharing in case it saves others the headache:

The Core Hurdle

Spanish FBA centres won’t assist with customs clearance – even with DDP services. Couriers like DHL/UPS hit walls because Amazon refuses to act as importer of record. For us, this meant rejected shipments and weeks of delays.

What Actually Worked

1️⃣ Amazon’s AVASK Customs Solution
  • Enrolled in their ATS-AVASK program (€200/year indirect rep fee + €60/shipment).
  • Shipped to Amazon’s Dartford hub → Their partners handled Spanish clearance/fiscal rep.
  • Why it saved us: AVASK becomes your legal importer, bypassing Amazon’s non-cooperation.
  • Pro tip: Use their current promo (first shipment free until Dec 2024!).
2️⃣ Rerouting Through France (Avoid Spain Altogether)

  • Sent stock to Amazon France (FBA center XBEJ1) via Pan-EU FBA.
  • Amazon redistributed to Spain internally – no customs re-filing needed.
  • Bonus: French customs are notably smoother than Spain/Germany for UK goods.
3️⃣ Kuehne Nagel for Pallet Shipments

  • For larger volumes: Used their dedicated FBA overland service (£4/box).
  • Their EU brokers handled Spanish import paperwork – critical for non-EU entities.
  • Timeline: Pallet reached Spain in 2 weeks vs. 6+ weeks with parcel couriers.

Critical Compliance Checks

  • Docs: Bilingual EN/ES invoices showing your business (not Amazon!) as importer.
  • VAT/EORI: Spanish EORI must be pre-linked to your VAT# – shipments fail without this.
  • EU Plugs: Added a leaflet stating *"Complies with EU Directive 2014/35/EU"* to packaging. Stopped Amazon rejections instantly.

What Failed (Save Your Money!)

  • Direct Spain shipments (customs agents can’t engage FBA centers).
  • German workarounds (storage in NL but stock held in Germany – stricter customs ).
  • Small-parcel couriers (e.g., DPD/WorldOption) without EU physical addresses .

Question for the group: How are you adapting UK→EU logistics in 2025? Any wins/pitfalls with the new CDS system?

(Background: 3-year Amazon seller, 70% EU revenue. Not a consultant – just sharing lessons!)
