Jusy a wee note for people :)

The NMW for eligible workers will increase. It will rise to £5.80 an hour for workers aged 22 and above and to £4.83 an hour to workers aged 18-21. The rate for those under 18 but above compulsory school age rises to £3.57 an hour.

1st October is also a big day for restaurant type business as they can no longer include tips etc as part of the NMW

As someone who grew up in and around the restaurant trade, and who still has family in the business, I have to say how much I applaud this move. Like all businesses being in trade is tough; but shafting your workers is no way to mitigate your own overheads...

Thanks , i had saw this detailed on the HMRC website the other day and wanted to add a post advising of the changes.

Definitely agree with your comments Matt, although it isn't just the restaurant trade. It seems a common theme at the moment where by employers are automatically looking to save money on employment costs.

I know this is a large example, but look at Diageo, just posted profits of around £2 billion but still looking to layoff circa 900 jobs.
