VanDayTools has just listed a browser-based pricing calculator for UK mobile dog groomers.

Enter your monthly van costs, fuel, mileage, supplies, appointment time and target pay to estimate a price floor per groom. You can also plan a sample day of appointments and compare booked hours and projected revenue with your daily target.

It is a one-off digital download (£12.98 for UK buyers, including digital VAT). The single HTML file runs in a modern desktop or mobile browser, works offline after download and has no subscription. It does not map or optimise driving routes, book appointments or calculate tax.

It is newly launched, so it has no reviews yet. Search Etsy for VanDayTools and the listing title: “Mobile Dog Groomer Pricing Calculator | UK Van Cost, Mileage & Day Profit Planner | Offline Browser Tool”.

Useful niche to target, since most new mobile groomers price by looking at what the groomer down the road charges rather than working out what a van actually costs per hour. A few questions and suggestions from a running-the-numbers angle.

On the van cost inputs
Does the monthly van figure prompt for the things people forget? The usual gaps are:
  • Depreciation or finance repayments, not just the deposit
  • Business-use motor insurance plus public liability and equipment cover
  • Servicing, tyres, MOT and a repair reserve
  • Water, generator fuel or electrical hook-up, and waste disposal
A prompt list inside the tool would stop someone entering "£150 diesel" and calling that their van cost. It would also help to mention the HMRC simplified mileage rate (45p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles, 25p after) as a sanity check against the actual-cost method, even though the tool does not do tax.

On the price floor
The number that makes or breaks a mobile groomer is unbillable time. Does the day planner let the user set travel time between appointments, plus an allowance for no-shows and dogs that take longer than booked? A groom slot of 90 minutes with 30 minutes of driving either side is a very different hourly rate from the one most people assume.

On target pay
It would be worth making clear whether "target pay" means take-home for a sole trader (before Class 4 NI and income tax) or a salary figure for a Ltd director. Many buyers will not know the difference, and the honest answer is that the gross figure needs to be higher than they think.

Two commercial points
Etsy collects and remits VAT on digital downloads to UK buyers itself, so stating that the price includes VAT is correct, but it is worth confirming in the listing whether future versions are included or if buyers need to repurchase. With no reviews yet, a short screenshot of a worked example (say a sample day with four grooms and the resulting hourly figure) would do more to sell it than any description.
