Mobile Emails

Just thought I would point out that over the last couple of months I have seen a very large increase in people contacting us via email from mobiles

I phone and then blackberry seem to be the most used. Looks like this is starting to catch on in a reasonable way.

The question it raises is. Do people expect an even quicker answer if emailing from mobiles?

Thats an interesting thought Peter. I dont think I would expect it any quicker but I would probably check alot more as to whether i've had a reply seeing as the email is so instant.

It brings up an interesting subject about how long people expect to receive a reply and even what businesses try to strive for as a decent response time to an email.

Agreed, i think people will want a faster answer. It also highlights how our business behaviours are catching up with our personal behaviours i.e. we want shops open 24/7 for convenience, online shopping, everything on the go and now we have the technology in our phones to send emails we don't have to be sat behind a computer screen.

I have recently invested in a blackberry and to be honest, after using it i think i'd be lost without it now.

It gives me issues to deal with as although we have a spread of business we get a lot direct from the public. My little bit of testing so far is resulting in good and bad!

We have been winning business by getting back asap as clients in these months are booking last minute. That of course is good.

Issue is if this increases you have to organise your business in order to get back to people instantly.

Will play some more and see what happens. With regards to the point made, we know from research that many people who enquire also enquire to a range of other companies providing similar services. When we get back very quickley our conversion rate is much higher than when we take 12 to 24 hrs.

Again good and bad depending on your point of view.

I think that maybe people won't be expecting an immediate response, but it does raise the fact that people are looking at your website from a mobile, and so mobile browser issues should move up the priority list. Also need to think about loading times etc on mobiles.

I think Your business in particular peter is one that people are likely to chat about in social situations, and grab their mobile phones to show their mates the website, and the emails are coming off at this point.

I was looking at a local businesses brand new website the other day, and the page didn't load in netbook or mobile browser. It was a hotel website, so doubly important i'd say for people to be able to view the website on the move.

From my personal experience, it's laziness. It's much easier to grab the phone in your pocket and do it from that than it is to horse yourself through the room to a computer.

I would hazard a guess that the majority of people contacting you aren't looking for an instant response, rather just an easy way to actually get in contact.

Although, that is just a guess! Don't take my word for it! :)

I would tend to agree with Stu on this one. With more and more apps appearing on iPhone and the likes for dealing with email, twitter, facebook et all it is more likely that people are sat on their bums watching telly whilst they check their email. Modern devices make it so easy to respond there and then there is no need to stand up and blow the dust of the PC in the corner. :)

Interesting responses

Since I posted I have been playing a bit more as all this sitting at the pool in France is getting dull:huh:

I tend to agree with Sandra it may be my industry but instant responses have dirven reasonable amount of business this last few days as we are in the last minute booking season.

It has created enough to make me think about how to come up with a plan to ensure all our enquires are answered instantly. Not figured out how to do yet though:confused1:
