Would agree with you on that, but they have also now release a 64Gb memory for those that want to carry around lots of Info. :)

These things are getting handier all the time. This year at Stow we gave out the student induction packs on 1GB memory stick. Far cheaper than the traditional four-ring binders we used in years past. And far better appreciated by the students, nearly all of whom carry and use them...

Thats a remarkable price :)

I have to say i'm also a huge fan but my only issue is that they make them that small these days i'm prone to either loing them or putting them in the washing machine with my trousers :p

I would also prefer if they were a little more secure, I know you have these biometric ones but they cost much more.

Dont suppose you have any tips Stu on how you can make these secure?

Hello you could download this program and it will encrypt the contents of the USB memory stick for you.

Download Cryptainer PE

In addition to things like Cryptainer, you can easily lock the USB stick to your own computer. If you create a folder in the USB drive and encrypt the contents, the only machine that will be able to read the data is the one you encrypted it on.

You can also export the encryption key from the computer and carry that around on a separate drive to allow you to access it on other machines.

Obviously, this idea is only useful if you're intent is to use it as a backup device only (storing it in an external location) and not using it on a separate machine.

To be honest, data encryption on usb drives isn't something I've had to implement much, so I wouldn't want to give my opinions on any software itself. However, I'll have a word with Prof Bill Buchanan tomorrow and see what he would do.
