If you were launching a new consumer brand today, which platform would you focus on first?

Depends on the product and who's buying it. For a brand starting from zero followers, TikTok is usually the better first move. Organic reach is still far higher than Instagram, so a small account can land in front of thousands without paying, and the UK audience is no longer just teenagers; the 25 to 44 bracket has grown fast.

Instagram makes more sense if the product is visual and considered (homeware, jewellery, premium food) or the typical customer is 30+. Reach is harder to earn there, but saved posts and the shop features do more of the selling once people arrive.

Practical route: pick one, post consistently for 90 days, then repurpose the best clips to the other with minimal extra effort. Use Meta Business Suite and TikTok's built-in analytics to see what's actually converting before putting money into ads. Splitting focus on day one tends to kill both.
