My bro has up until now ran a successful pest control business on his own in Glasgow, he is now finding it more difficult to get his customers to pay on time, thus affecting his cashflow, it is getting him down and depite my efforts to keep him motivated he seems to be neglecting things and not trying to get new clients, now i know he is the only person to turn things round,i wondered if people could give some ideas to help him out..

You hit the nail on the head....but it's not clients he needs....it's 'motivated' to get business that he needs.

The longer he is down the worse it's going to get.

Keep encouraging him....keep saying positive things to him,...no matter what he tries to throw back at you.

Positive people attract more postivie people.....and that leads to business in the long term.

Clear his head.

Gordon thanks for your reply...He has done so well until now and i just dont want to see him losing what he has worked for...

His business does not interest me( i am not enthusiastic about it...) ...or i would get out there for him...My business is lorries and muck...And i am trying to get my own operation started at present..

I now realise the power of this forum...it is brilliant !!!!

Thanks to the other high profile member taking an interest...It is so appreciated...

Hi Seymie,

You'd be very surprised how many business owners I have worked with who either dont value or dont like credit control. Any business that ignores this at present wont be around too long.

He needs to be focussed on running his business and maybe what he needs is to outsource this. It's probably came a little to early for me as i'm about a month away from launching a new business primarily aimed at allowing people to outsource these types of problems.

If he has a basic accountancy package in place it should be quite easy to arrange to send debtors an overdue statement accompanied by some sort of chasing letter. The system doesn't need to be too complicated :) If that doesn't work then you really need to be calling and making the non-payment a bit of an issue. Always remember it's your brothers money and he shouldn't be being a bank to anyone else. This might seem harsh but very true at present.

I'm here to help and offer advice if it's of any use :)
