Is posting every day actually useful, or is 2–3 quality posts per week enough?

Short answer: 2 to 3 solid posts a week beats daily filler for most small UK businesses.

Consistency matters far more than raw volume. The algorithms on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn reward accounts that people actually engage with, not accounts that simply show up every morning. A plumber in Leeds posting three genuinely useful pieces a week (a before-and-after job, a quick tip on frozen pipes, a customer review) will nearly always outperform one posting a daily stock image with a generic quote on it. Low-effort daily content can even hurt you, because poor engagement on each post teaches the platform to show your stuff to fewer people.

That said, the "right" number depends on a few things:

  • Platform: Twitter/X and TikTok move quickly and tolerate higher frequency. Facebook business pages and LinkedIn are slower and 2 to 4 posts a week is plenty. Instagram Stories can be daily and casual, while grid posts should be more considered.
  • Type of business: A café or independent retailer with daily specials has a natural reason to post often. An accountant or B2B consultancy does not, and forcing it usually shows.
  • Your capacity: Whatever frequency you pick, you need to keep it up for months. Bursting to seven posts a week in January and going silent by March looks worse to customers than a steady three.

A practical approach: commit to a schedule you can sustain on a bad week, not a good one. Batch content on a quiet afternoon, use the free scheduling tools built into Meta Business Suite or LinkedIn, and set aside ten minutes a day for replying to comments and messages. That reply time does more for reach than an extra post ever will.

Track it for eight to twelve weeks. Look at reach and engagement per post in the platform's own insights, and at whether enquiries or footfall actually shift. If three posts a week is working, adding a fourth is worth testing. If it is not working, posting more of the same will not fix it, and the issue is the content rather than the frequency.
