Has anyone switched from a traditional receptionist to an AI receptionist?

I'm curious whether anyone here has replaced a human receptionist or voicemail with an AI-powered solution.

What improvements did you notice? Did it reduce missed calls, improve customer satisfaction, or save your team time? Were there any challenges during the transition?

Switching to an AI receptionist – what tends to change

Most UK SMEs see the biggest win in fewer missed calls (out of hours, lunch, peak times) and less admin for the team: basic triage, booking links, FAQs, and routing to the right person. If it’s set up well, customers like the instant answer, and you get cleaner call logs and better capture of leads.

Challenges are usually setup and tone. You’ll need a tight script, clear rules for when to hand off to a human, and a plan for complex queries/complaints. Expect a short bedding-in period while you tweak intents, business hours, and escalation.

Tip: keep a human fallback (or call-back promise) and monitor missed/abandoned calls weekly for the first month.
