Hi, first time on this forums, however hoping for someone to point me in the right direction since I’m completely lost.
Landlord is charging me £500 per month for electricity (I have a meter in my shop), however I don’t believe it should be that much.
For the last 6 months, business has been closed for personal reasons, with the intention of reopening shortly.
Landlord has been requesting I continue paying the electricity of £500 since it essentially comes out of their account.
I don’t believe this is correct, since I have used no electricity for 6months, surely I should solely be paying the standing daily charge. Shop is a barbershop and very small.
Landlord states he has taken out a 5 year contract with the utility company and the amount due is £500 per month. I personally believe I’m being taken advantage off and during these months of closure, why am I still paying the full £500 monthly fee.
Is my thinking correct that businesses only need to pay a standing charge, regardless of the business is not using electric?
