A lot of what is happening just now in the world is nothing to do with the stock market, but a real grip of fear in some quarters.

And of course there are elements of people in business who feel it's too hard to carry on in such circumstances.

I therefore got to thinking about what I thought about my own business....and did I value it or even believe in it.

The answer is yes I do, I believe I have one of the most successful format of networking outthere and I am not going to sit still on this, waiting for the storm to pass. I am in the process of developing a whole wrath of new products and services which will really help businesses through this time.

I am not stopping there, next week we will annouce new venues for even more PLC's to help business through these times....I really am thinking big.

What about yourselves, are there people who believe in their fantastic businesses too or are you standing sitll and waiting to see what happening instead?

Buy a lipstick, to reward yourself for not buying those £100 boots.
Buy a choccy bar because you've been good and not ordered that takeaway.
Play a computer game because it's much cheaper than going to the cinema......... :)

Of course we believe in our businesses, Gordon.

Times may get a little difficult for some, but stick with it, present a positive, go ahead image and other people will believe in your business as well.

Wise, encouraging words Theresia,....thanks

I'm sensing panic in some of the companies that target the main corporate market. This week I've had over 30 unsolicited CVs sent to me from competitors' staff and been offered umpteen bits of equipment at knockdown price... The one characteristic is that all these people have been servicing the high end (read wasteful) blue chip market...

On the other hand I've had a whole stack of enquiries too as people ARE looking for a lower cost alternative to what they've been using. Regular customers seem to be quite robust; but then they're smaller more agile businesses....

So the short answer is Yes; I believe in what I'm doing and am more than full of hope for the future.

As some of you know I have been feeling the heat a little recently, however with the support and advice from some of the members in SBF I have gained a whole new outlook - and belief in my business, and me.

Much as Gordon is looking at ways to help businesses in the current financial climate that we are suffering, I too have been giving great thought to this concept. I have been looking at how I can explain to potential customers that using the internet and having an effective website is the most cost effective method of marketing. And in response to some ideas about how best to drive the business forward I have come up with a great way of securing regular income for me whilst making websites more affordable for customers. The icing on the cake is that I am happy and the client actually gets better value for money!

My wallet may be a little skinny just now but I can sleep again, smile again and look forward to the future with a positive frame of mind!

Regards,

Gordon

I think for many businesses it will be quieter than usual just now and what you've said Gordon is a really valuable piece of advice. We shouldn't be sitting back waiting for the doom and gloom to get worse but using the time to prepare our businesses for the better times that will hopefully return. There may be certain sacrifices you need to make to get through but what should come out of it is a stronger and more focussed business going forward.

On a personal note Gordon I think your format is refreshing and the quality of businesses first class. The Power Lunch Club has the potential to be THE best networking company in Scotland and i'm certainly looking forward to being a part of it :)

i think more and more people are networking just now and moving into areas where they would never have done before. i went into a small business shop yesterday and just by spending the time talking rather than going in buying and leaving found that we had made a deal for them to sell my stamps, gave them a trader account, and also discovered that they were looking for other businesses services they wanted to resell so gave them contact details of other businesses whom i have dealt with or knew and recommended. This a few years ago would not have happened so readily so times are changing definitely

Thanks for that Promo,

It's so important too at these times....the companies which will survive are the one's which are out their networking and building relationships just like yours.

it's the only way to survive for the next year is to network and recommend each other - that is what i miss about the old first tuesday glasgow network as they were always helpful, now it is down, and useful for contacts and advise. meetings were 1800 and finished about 2000 which was great for those of us who have public transport to get home before it is too late. daytime meetings are no good for me

does this group ever meet in the centre of glasgow near central station? could be good to network and see what we all do?
