I've heard this term being banded about all over the place but i've never really understood what it actually means. Perhaps some of our techy guys good explain what it actually is and whether it's a good thing :)

Cloud computing is a move away from tradition pcs as a storage device, with the cloud being the internet. So you can store information on servers online without software or hardware requirements at your end ideally allowing you to access your info from any pc.

It may mean in the future your comp is just an access point, if it dies you get another one without losing all your data, this I guess is dependant on the cloud being properly managed and backed-up, personally I'll always like a copy myself physically but change can be hard!

So things like Google Docs etc are the start of this cloud i assume? I also came accross a few news articles where Microsoft is about to announce their arrival on the cloud computing scene as well. It must also be similar to SAAS (Software as a Service) which i'm a big fan of. The Microsoft Office suite is very expensive so other models of payment I think may have some potential. :)

Are there some ISP'S will to let there software access this cloud? I had my laptop on a train the other day, and other people were getting connected okay, but mine wouldn't:001_huh:

Hello,

Microsoft at the moment are doing the same thing it is called Microsoft online services, everything from your company can be hosted with microsoft, the good thing about this is that you can also keep your existing local servers and link to the online services and keep you existing domain name.

Microsoft at the moment are only offering this service in the states for now until they have built their datacentre in Ireland.

They also offer exchange services that will manage your spam, and all this can be managed from an online management console.

If you would like more information on this then give me a shout as I am registered with microsoft to sell and support the online services.

Regards

Darren
