Client/vendor relationship in the real world

Any of this sound familiar?

OOOHHHH yeah....

 Even having hacked the cost for what I do down to prices that are around a 1/4 of what comparable competitors charge I still get this sort of C**p!

My own response runs along the lines of allowing the client to select which one of two particular face-like statuettes they would prefer to make contact with their Iliac Colons... There are individuals who push the envelope just too far! And the sickening thing is the closer you come to meeting them the more likely they are to try and erode the price further.

I have fairly draconian T&Cs and they're right there upfront. You don't like 'em don't even waste my bandwidth by sending me an email! definitely don't waste my breath by calling me.... I'll routinely generate a 5%-15% on my rack rates provided the client meets certain criteria. but that really is the bottom line...

I'm all about supplying what is probably the lowest cost product of it's kind in the UK. But there comes a point where the pips squeak and it's right there on my rate card. People just need to have the courage to tell the p*ss-takers where to go! Otherwise you risk devaluing your product to the point where you can't viably deliver it!

Mmm... a couple of weeks ago I had enquiry about using some of my cartoons in a presentation. The minute I saw the phrases 'it's only internal and there are only six of us" I knew what they were angling for. So I sent an email quoting my rates for reusing a cartoon and asking who to send the invoice to. Sure enough i got a reply 'Oh, we don't have a budget. We thought there was no harm in asking..."

It's a good idea to have some ludicrous 'rack rate' for IP like this; That way if somone just uses it without permission you're chasing a very substantial amount of money for the licence aside from the damages...

'Normal' deals of course are offered at rates discounted down to those normally found on planet earth.
