Backlinking

I have links to my website on a few forums (signature posts) and I've also placed links on a number of business & photography directories, However when I checked using Google, it seems I only have two back links to my site.

I have also seen sites which are placed at the top of page one for certain search phrases, yet appear to have no back links (according to Google)

Hi guys,

I got a query for writing articles today and the lady asked whether I do back linking ... here is a VERY interesting article I just discovered on it.

The Importance of Backlinks

Personally I don't think this is a very good or helpful article at all. It's been fluffed out into about 600 words when they could have said the same stuff in 2 paragraphs.

It would have been much more helpful if they briefly explained the concept and showed some good methods to obtain backlinks - this would be much more useful for everyone. Linkbuilding is very very very hard labourious, boring and downright infuriating. But done well it is the berries.

One tip I would advise people to do is instead of say your trophy phrase in the anchor text such as "blue widgets" try stuff like "get blue widgets" or "buy new and used blue widgets". Google will reward this type of anchor text well - it's been shown extensively and outwith the scope of this forum but do some reading and you will learn.

You're giving away too much, Stu ;)
