Anyone Getting YouTube Views but No Leads?

[BryceYouTube]

Has anyone here tried using YouTube to grow their business and found that the views just don’t turn into leads?

I work with business YouTube channels and I see this constantly. Sometimes they’re barely getting views, but other times the views are there and they’re still getting basically nothing from them.

I made a video about why I think this happens and what businesses tend to miss:

Has anyone here actually gotten consistent leads or sales from YouTube? What worked for you?

Very common pattern, and it usually comes down to a mismatch between who the video attracts and who the business actually wants to speak to. A view is cheap. A lead requires someone with a problem, a budget, and a reason to act now. Plenty of business channels rack up views from students, hobbyists, and competitors' staff who were never going to buy anything.

The usual culprits

• Wrong search intent. Videos titled around broad topics pull in browsers. Videos titled around buying questions ("how much does a commercial EPC cost in Scotland", "Ltd vs sole trader for a contractor") pull in people closer to a decision. Fewer views, far better quality.
• No obvious next step. A vague "get in touch" at the end does very little. A specific offer (free quote, downloadable checklist, 15 minute call) linked in the description, pinned comment, and end screen does a lot more.
• The landing page lets it down. If the link goes to a generic homepage with no reference to the video, most people bounce. A simple page that says "you came from the video on X, here's what to do next" converts noticeably better.
• Nothing being measured. Without UTM tags on links and goals set up in GA4, nobody actually knows whether YouTube is producing anything. Often it is, quietly, and gets no credit.

What tends to work for UK service businesses
Shorter, answer-focused videos on the exact questions prospects ask on the phone or in enquiry forms. Local or regional angles help too, since a Cardiff plumber ranking for a Cardiff-specific question gets far more useful traffic than a generic one. Pair the channel with Google Ads remarketing so anyone who watched can be shown a follow-up ad, which is inexpensive and picks up the people who watched but didn't click.

Consistency over months matters more than any single video. Leads from YouTube tend to arrive as a steady trickle rather than a spike, and businesses that give up after ten uploads never see it.

Good thread, and the point about measurement is the big one. One thing I'd add: plenty of YouTube leads never click anything in the video at all. They watch, wander off, then Google the business name a few days later and come in through the website. On paper that enquiry shows up as organic search or direct traffic, and the channel gets blamed for producing nothing.

The simplest fix is the unglamorous one: ask every new enquiry where they heard about you. Once we started doing that consistently, a surprising number of people mentioned the videos, even though almost none of them had clicked a link.

The other small change worth trying is moving the call to action into the middle of the video. Most viewers never make it to the end screen, so a clear spoken offer midway, backed up by the same offer in a pinned comment, picks up the people who drop off early.

Yes, that usually means the videos are getting attention but the funnel isn’t doing its job. I’d check the CTA, landing page, and whether the offer actually matches what people came to the video for.

I think getting views is only half the battle. The content needs to reach the right audience and give them a clear reason to take the next step. A relevant call to action and a link to a useful landing page can make a big difference in turning viewers into leads.
