The public consultation phase in the development of a National Strategy for Business Archives in Scotland is now open. Creators of business records, users, business persons, archivists, information professionals, lawyers, liquidators and anyone else with a connection to or interest in business records are invited to respond to the consultation.
Records are a unique and powerful business asset and the implementation of the National Strategy for Business Archives will help businesses to promote, manage and exploit their archives and records effectively.
Currently around 20% of FTSE 100 companies, and many private companies, employ professional archivists to actively exploit their business records. These companies have realised that archives can be used:
• To increase brand knowledge and awareness in marketing and customer relations.
• As a source of new product innovation providing direct commercial value.
• To provide information vital for business continuity.
• To protect your brand from trademark infringement and against litigation.
• To tell your story and foster brand loyalty to give a competitive advantage.
To find out more about making the most of your business archive and the benefits it can provide then please read the strategy. The draft strategy and response forms can be accessed at: University of Glasgow :: Archive Services :: National Strategy for Business Archives
The deadline response date for the strategy is Friday 28 May 2010.
The strategy has been developed by the Business Archives Council of Scotland and the Ballast Trust with the support of the National Archives of Scotland and the Scottish Council on Archives.
