10 inches

Ok, maybe this isn't the post you were expecting but, could some of the techie guys give me their opinion on 10inch web books. I do a lot of tethered shooting for product shots and one of these looks like a good compromise between portability and size and for £300 won't break the bank. I was looking at the Samsung NC10 and it comes with XP which should ensure that the program I use for tethered shooting will work on it. Having wi-fi is also a bonus. Let me know what you think.

Netbooks - they are superb for what they are designed for Brian, browsing the web & checking emails, they are not a notebook replacement though. Good for browsing but after an hour or two you may get frustrated. The NC10 is probably one of the best 10" on the market, touchpad is a little small as they all are but workable and battery life is good. If you buying from Amazon you could always consider going though my aff link on netbooks ;)

You should consider getting a mouse to go with it if you are using it for any major length of time.

Thanks Scott. There's no way I would use it as a replacement for my laptop but it would make my life so much easier for viewing shots on as I go along. There are a number of ways to review photographs as they are taken and I think this would be a good compromise to carrying a laptop for doing product shots. Battery life shouldn't be a problem as most places I shoot have mains.

Hi Brian,
I tried using a 13" macbook for tethered shooting and i did find it a bit too heavy and pretty useless when used outdoors but a netbook sounds like a good idea to me, nice and compact / light. Let us know how you get on.

I certainly will Alan. My plan was to have my lappy set up permanently in my new studio and to take the netbook out and about when I need to. It'll save all the hassle of disconnecting everything when I go out.
