Hello everyone, just putting this out there if any business owners on here have unread emails, messy spreadsheets, general mess.

I don't have a fancy cv or a portfolio to show you but I am the real reliable person based in the uk with a lot of spare hours at the moment.

I can help you with simple things like data entry, sorting out files, typing up documents or cleaning out a cluttered inbox so you can focus on running your business.

I'm down to do a quick trial task completely for free so you can see I'm fast and reliable. If it actually helps you out, we can just figure out a cheap weekly rate and you can just pay it on fridays.

Drop me a pm if you need an extra pair of hands this week.

Nice offer — a couple of UK-specific tweaks will help you win trust quickly.

A lot of owners will like the “free trial task” idea, but they’ll also worry about confidentiality and access to their email/accounts. It’s worth stating up front that you’re happy to sign an NDA and that you’ll work through shared access rather than needing passwords (for example, delegated access in Microsoft 365/Gmail, or working from exported files). That one line can remove a big barrier.

To make it easy for people to say yes, consider posting a clear “menu” of tasks and what you need from them:
  • Inbox tidy: labels/folders, unsubscribe list, flagging urgent items, drafting replies for approval
  • Spreadsheet cleanup: de-duplication, consistent formatting, basic formulas, converting PDFs to Excel/CSV
  • Document typing: minutes, handwritten notes, quotes/invoices into templates
  • File organisation: naming conventions, folder structure, archiving

On payment: if you’re doing this regularly, many clients will ask whether you’re a sole trader and can invoice. A simple line like “happy to invoice weekly; bank transfer accepted” helps. If you’re under the £1,000 trading allowance you may not need to register yet, but clients still like a basic invoice/receipt.

If you want, add a short “how a trial works”:
  • 30–60 minutes on one defined task
  • Client provides a sample dataset or limited mailbox folder
  • You return before/after + any questions

Good luck — admin support is genuinely valuable when it’s reliable and discreet.

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it.

You make a good point about security. I am totally fine to sign an NDA before doing any work, it's rather locked in. Shared or delegated access on Gmail or Outlook, brings in lower cortisol on the other end.

The task menu idea is great too. To keep it simple for anyone reading, I am happy to do a 45 minute free trial on typing up handwritten notes and PDFs into clean documents or sorting out a messy inbox, before hand understanding how you want things to be cleaned.

I am as a sole trader so I can easily send over a weekly invoice.

Thanks again for the tips. Still have some hours free this week if any busy owners want to drop me a pm and pass over some work.

And I'll be accepting your luck.

That reads much stronger now — just tighten the wording a touch and you’ll sound even more businesslike.

A couple of small tweaks: swap “locked in” for “happy to sign an NDA before starting”, and avoid anything that sounds a bit casual (the “lower cortisol” line). Owners reading this want to know you’re careful, structured, and won’t create risk.

You could post something like this (feel free to copy/paste):

Code:
UK-based sole trader offering admin support (data entry / typing / inbox tidy).
• Security: happy to sign an NDA. I’ll work via delegated/shared access (no passwords),or from exported files.
• Free trial: 45 minutes on one defined task (typing handwritten notes/PDFs into a clean document OR sorting a messy inbox).
• How it works: you tell me your preferred structure (folders/labels/naming),I complete the task, then you review before any ongoing work.
• Ongoing: weekly invoice, paid by bank transfer on Fridays (or another day if you prefer).
PM me if you want help this week.

If you want to go one step further, mention the tools you’re comfortable with (Gmail/Outlook, Word/Google Docs, Excel/Sheets) and your typical availability window. That helps busy Ltd company directors and sole traders quickly decide if you’ll fit around their working day.

No problem.

If you post that revised blurb, it’ll answer most of the “can this person be trusted and how does it work?” questions upfront, which is usually what stops busy Ltd directors and sole traders from replying.

One small extra that often helps: add a line on what you won’t do (e.g. “no access to banking, no taking payments, no HMRC logins”) unless a client specifically wants that and you’ve agreed a safe process. It reassures people you understand boundaries.

Hope you get a few solid PMs this week.
