I was wondering who you use for accepting card payments online? Any good recommendations?

The obvious one is Paypal -- or at least the most widely used (by small online businesses). WorldPay and SagePay other examples.

I only have limited experience of setting up PayPal for accepting payments for an online store.

The key is really to check the fees (per transaction & running costs)

Lots of reading here: http://www.theukcardsassociation.org.uk if you are a larger business.

We don't accept this as a payment method at the moment - all we work in is cash, cheques and direct bank transfer. So therefore I am interested in hearing this as well! As it would allow us to offer other services in addition to those that are already available to our clients.

Thanks! That's really useful

We're about to start looking into it. I'll try to report back with what we ended up going for

We use PayPal as it just seems easier and safe. But sometimes we get bitten slightly when we work in foreign currency. Can't be helped I suppose. I'd rather have the business and pay a small fee than not have it at all.

It depends on the exchange rates and such. It's not my favourite form of payment because of the fees but luckily I see most of my clients face to face (I give some lessons over the internet) so they simply hand cash over.

I now only take PayPal online, but previously had SagePay set up and working as part of my wife's online store. Worked really well, but was a lot more expensive, because you needed the merchant bank account to be able to take online payments (Barclays),plus the SagePay account, so was costing ~£50 a month just for the accounts, before taking into consideration the fees per transaction.

Unfortunately, the cost of that would be too much for me. We don't make a great deal of profit at the moment anyway so adding another expense, even if it could be claimed back at some point, might just be the end of us, as silly as that sounds!

Same with us. We do take some PayPal payments because we do online lessons (they're so much fun!) and obviously don't see clients face to face in person in those instances.

That is exactly why we got rid of it in the end. It was costing too much each month. We now only take PayPal online, or offer direct bank transfer via the online shop, but orders aren't processed until the payment has cleared into the current account.

Yeah we won't start until payments have cleared either. Luckily bank transfers are usually either the same day or the day after so there isn't too much of a delay.

I will sometimes make a start before getting paid if I'm excited about the job, but certainly won't hand a single thing over before payment.

Blockchain technology is generally considered to be safe to use, as it provides a secure and decentralized way to store and transfer information. The underlying technology relies on complex algorithms and cryptography to ensure the integrity of the data stored on the blockchain.
