That's a good article Gordon :)

The points about indentifying people who you think you can joint venture with is a very good one but I was recently reading some stuff from a chap called Kevin Kelly who is Ireland most respected motivational speaker. What I took from his comments was that he was saying not to try and limit or pre-select who will work with your business as really anyone can become an important asset to your business.

Both points are great but to me I think there's a risk that you spread yourself too thin. Being that i'm committed to SBF I always try and take an interest in everyone I meet as to me they all have the potential of being a part of SBF.

How do other people approach networking, are you very selective or very open and happy to chat to anyone? Do you think it's better to be open or to be focussed and have a clear plan of action? :)

Hi ,
I think there are arguments for both. For example if you are at a short business networking event then perhaps it is a good idea to be more focused on who you speak to?

However take the New Start exhibition this weekend, I spoke to as many people as possible and it's amazing the number of useful contacts that came out of it. Often it's a case of they know someone who knows someone etc etc.

I think your point about taking in an interest in everyone in very important.

Stuart
