Who is the best Web Designer?

I feel this thread may go awry, but it is a genuine question.

If you had to name one, which web company would you feel is the strongest in Scotland. Budget no object, but one that you know could cope with anything, meet deadlines, and produce a very high, blue chip, calibre of website?

Thanks
Sandra

Oooooooh! I like these posts :D

I think you may have problems finding an overall winner. There are just too many variables when it comes to designing a website to pick one company over another. It totally depends on specifically what it is you're looking for.

There are some designers I'd use if I were looking for a CMS based site, and yet, I'd avoid them completely if it was Flash Based.

But yes, I am looking forward to the fights you may have just started! :D

Stu is right, different web design agencies will specialise in different aspects of design and development as it's a broad industry. There may be some that would be best for e-commerce and others for app development etc etc.

Another thing to mention is that many like myself will work to a clients budget and produce what is possible for the funds available. The impact this has is that for a client with a higher budget I can allow more time for the job, allowing for the sourcing of higher quality stock imagery or photographer hire, the ability to hire any specialists required for more advanced functions of the site or pull in extra developers to help hit deadlines etc.

Very broad question, and one that I can't answer directly for obvious reasons (other than to say ME!!:) )

My general opinion is that there is no 'best' designer in Scotland, only one that is the most suited for your individual project.

Is there any specific reason for asking, I'm curious?

I know a company who were the only Scottish company to be nominated for a Yell Award for design, were nominated for the Police Charter for web design, won lots of awards for design, produced lots of work for blue chip companies...but we don't do web design any more ;)

I love the Loch Fyne website, that really hits all of the buttons for me. I thought they'd have a Scottish web company, but no, based in Poole, couldn't get further away. :(

The Loch fyne website is derived from a template and the background is from squidfingers.

Is there a reason for these questions Sandra because it's not really internet marketing?

I would say its "E-Business" :)

I might be looking for a quote, for a website design, which needs to take on two, very established, very well linked, very well known, top websites in a competitive category.

Needs to be ASP compatible.

Looking for someone that can punch real heavyweight in both design & build. With a trackrecord with blue chip clients.

For once, budget is not the determining factor, achievement of results is more important.

Didn't really want to do a bit of self promotion on my first forum post but.....we are based in Ayrshire and develop + market sites for some very large businesses. drivebusiness: end to end ecommerce solutions We run international sites for AllSaints, Gant(new site on the way),Gio Goi, Bench, Reiss(new site on the way),Duchamp London and others. I work on the marketing rather than tech side so no difficult questions please :)

I'll need to try and get involved in the SBF scene.

Sadly there is no such thing as the 'best anything'...only the 'right one' for your needs!
