When I lived in Ardrossan I used to work with a fellow who's Dad hailed from California and who had basically grown up there... He too was baffled by the panic back in L.a. over the fairly common phenomena of flash floods and heavy rain...

Equally so by our own 'headless chicken' act when Saltcoats town centre got flooded in around 1990-91...
