Hello children of all ages. My new venture, Santa's Gateaux, is a Childrens' Cake Workshop that aims to take on Christmas traditionalists. Aimed at Edinburgh and Lothians' families we'd love to see you all at Belhaven Fruit Farm in Dunbar. Press release, of sorts, below:
Two East Lothian businesses join forces to take on Christmas traditionalists
East Lothian business starters Alan Kittle and Nadia Ellingham have this week announced their new joint-venture Santa’s Gâteaux, Childrens’ Cake Workshops, will run at Belhaven Fruit Farm in December.
Proclaiming traditional Santa’s Grottos as “old hat” they are confident their deliciously fresh twist on the format, where children have fun baking and decorating cakes and Christmas treats as well as meeting Santa, will strike a seasonal note with local families. The basic ingredients remain – discussing their list with Saint Nicholas and receiving a gift – except the gift that children take home is their very own creations in a special Santa’s Gateaux cake box.
The idea came to Alan Kittle, owner of advertising agency Black White And Red All Over, and he presented it to his new client, chocolatier Nadia Ellingham who owns Thinking Chocolate. The pair decided to “beta test” the concept this December before exploring ways to put Santa’s Gâteaux “in every mall in every town every Christmas.”
Kittle said of his concept, ”As a father of three I know how much fun my children have in the run up to Christmas. Putting up the tree, decorating the house, and visiting Santa. We want to make Christmas even more magical and exciting – if that’s possible! We hope our cake workshops do the trick.”
Ellingham added, ”I love good chocolate and good conversation, it really was just a matter of time before they came together! At Thinking Chocolate we’re all about making good looking, great tasting products with delicious fresh ingredients. Santa’s Gâteaux is the perfect way for me to indulge in my passion for fun and education. I’m sure we’re going have a ball.”
To help cook up interest the workshops are being promoted in social networking sites Twitter and Facebook – with fans being offered free coffee and cake when their children are busy enjoying the baking banter! Kittle states, “Word of mouth is tremendously important for a new venture like this, trying to capture the imagination of Mums and Dads and asking them to tell their friends about it is the smart, and cost-effective, way to create attention. Obviously it helps that I know a thing or two building audiences.”
