The problem here is that many of the fashionable "Green" business ideas come and go. If you are looking to make money, get in, build it up and sell it before the tide turns - if you can bag yourself some grant money or cheap loans then make good use of the funding.

Helping the planet to recover in any way from the detrimental effects mankind's occupation has created is to be applauded.
If you have a good idea for a business that can help in this respect the business still needs to be profitable and viable.

As Mark said, although there may be grants available for such an enterprise it is important to look at the long term sustainability of the business model and make sure you don't get your fingers burnt if the service or product you offer goes out of fashion.

I'm very much with Mark on this one... Personally, although the protection of the environment does concern me, there is very little of the current fad for 'greenwashing' that I buy into. - And in recent times I found myself uncomfortable close to such an enterprise (charity based) that was nothing but an out-and-out scam which was placing vulnerable people in danger, as well as undermining legitimate businesses. - That's left an unpleasant scar.

That said, I've always - since childhood - question the culture of disposability. Plastic is a resilient material, not a disposable - and anything that can be done to clean up the mess of 60+ years of utter stupidity, ought to be done.

Love them or loathe them, in the US the government offers long term backing to potentially life changing business ideas - look at the massive investment in electric cars (Tesla borrowed hundreds of millions of dollars to expand but managed to pay the loan back early) although there were some spectacular failures in this areas as well. In the UK, funding for such business ideas tends to be very short term to grab a few headlines unless it is a political favourite - such as wind turbines across Scotland. These turbines would be unaffordable without massive tax payer subsidies - so why fund them? Plus they are a massive eye sore.

I am all for green energy, etc but it needs to be affordable and self sustaining - surely that is the whole idea of any business?
