.tel domain to be the new web phone book

Picked this up on a few sources today. I'm wondering if this is just another gimmicky TLD (Top Level Domain),or are there actually way to use this and for it to be actually useful.

Does anyone know what these will actually be used for?

Just another random gimmick IMHO. My business has a phone number, an email address and a postal address. They can all be found in the order I want them to be found from a page on my website.

This system at first sight would seem to offer few advantages. There's mention of the iphone and Blackberry, 'smartphones'. A concept that for me at least came and went several years ago! My newest phone is a JCB/Sonim XP1! A business tool so stripped down it doesn't even have a camera! And any phone that needs something other than a simple phone number input to make a call ain't so smart in my view!

I notice that they've just launched the .tel domains so that you can now buy them.

Are these going to be any use? Should I rush out and buy some?
