Please find details of our upcoming Press Release Masterclass. The course will be held on Tuesday October 7, 2008, 9.30 am - 5.15 pm, in Edinburgh.
The course – which has had rave reviews from participants – is aimed not only at PR copywriters and marketers but at anyone in business who needs to sharpen writing skills for press releases and public announcements in the age of digital marketing and online news. Ideal for account executives, marketing execs and freelance PRs working in any sector, it illustrates how to write sound copy while avoiding the common errors journalists generally hate, and how to get your press release to stand out from the crowd.
Led by Robert Shepherd, Press Dispensary’s co-editorial director who has 20 years’ professional experience in broadcasting, business communications and public relations, the course gives a practical grounding in how to write a persuasive press release for your business that will grab the journalists’ attention. It also looks at the distribution of releases and the rapidly changing world of online news syndication, with an introduction to online PR. Interactive workshop exercises are used to increase your skills.
The course content is as follows:
• Identifying your company name
• What is news?
• The value of good copy
• Jargon that kills the golden goose
• How to write a press release
o Good English - avoiding grammar gaffes
o Structure and layout
o Style conventions
o Making spokespeople earn their keep
o Creative headline and caption writing
o Editing and subbing
• Writing and editing for web publication
• Press release distribution
• Web publication in the age of web 2.0
• An introduction to online PR
• The news release in SEO, search engine marketing and direct marketing
• Q&A
Course slides and a certificate are available after the event.
The usual price is £350 plus VAT per trainee and includes lunch and refreshments. We are offering you a discounted rate of £300 for bookings made before Oct 1. If you would like to book a place, please visit Book training course from Press Dispensary UK or call me on the number below to discuss anything further.

Press Dispensary’s depth of experience really showed through and attendees were given a valuable insight into the world of the journalist. I would strongly recommend the course to anyone who issues press releases or writes for the web.”
