Hello everyone!

I’m new here, I have a new business idea in mind, and I’m looking for advice on registering the business name as a trade mark, initially in the U.K.

I have a brand name and a logo.
Would the brand name and logo have to be registered separately or would I register them both together as one.

Also, regarding companies house registration, what is the best option for me to choose, sole trader, limited company?

Once I’ve registered with companies house, do I then have to register with HMRC?

Many thanks, and wishing you all a great weekend.

Rob.

Hi. To my understanding you must apply for the brand name and logo trademarks separately.

When it comes to trading as a company or sole trader, it actually depends on your circumstances and preferences. E.g. flexibility of profit extraction vs cost (accounting/compliance) vs limited liability.

If you register your company with Companies House, you will also need to register it with HMRC (for corporation tax, VAT, payroll).

Depending on the type of business that you will be doing, if you have customer or supplier overseas, might want to consider setting up your new company in HK instead where corporate profits tax rate is low at 8.25-16.5%. You can operate your company while residing in the UK.

Hi, many thanks. This is something I never thought about but will take into consideration.

A logo is not a requirement to register any business. Maybe for copyrights/trademarks stuff. Other aspect of your question has been properly addressed in the above thread.
