There is nothing we could have done about that!

Just remember and make sure that your computer's are up to date and you should be okay.

Keep shouting about it...I am probably one of the one who are parnaoid about keeping my data safe and secure...and avoid dodgy website at all costs.

But I meet so many small business, who security and maintenance of their systems are lacking to the point of stupidity. Because I run a computer training company, people assume I know how a compute works or that I should be able to fix it should it go wrong....I am a mere user...I have a service in place (with another company)...but you guys should be in my oppoinion one of the number 1 service that companies need to be thinking about. Losing a computer or even data would cripple most businesses in a matter of days.

You would be amazed at just how lax people are when it comes to their data. They assume that nothing can or will go wrong and then when it does they expect us to be able to work minor miracles and recover it and even then, they often don't learn from their mistakes.

When you quote someone a few hundred pound to provide a network backup box with software, installation and configuration all they see is the cost, not the potential future cost of data & disaster recovery etc.

There is only so many times I can tell them and eventually i think 'sod it, it's their loss' and wait for the inevitable call.

Hubby asked me to fix a friend's laptop. I couldn't even install anti-virus software or Spybot on it because the viruses and malware were that thick. Naturally, the guy's desktop was dotted with Kazaa and other P2P applications, open all the time. I said to hubby "Please tell your friend I am not going to waste any more time trying to fix this machine - what is the point, with that crap on his desktop?"

So you have my sympathy, PC-Support.
