.net framework

Okay, this is a long shot - and I'll post this on another forum I'm a member of, too, but I'm hoping someone clever can answer this ... I'm stumped with this one...

I use a software programme called Winscribe. It's a programme where clients of my client phone in and record their audio to be transcribed. My client has recently done an upgrade and dropped on me like a bomb the following information:

"Any version you have of .NET Framework will have to be uninstalled and you'll have to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1.

So this sounds simple enough, and I went along to Add or Remove Programmes, uninstalled the version I had, downloaded the new version from the link they gave me and tried to install. That's where the problem came ... it gets to the end of the installation scroll bar and just sits and sits and sits (I'm talking I left it for six hours).

So I emailed my client and asked him for advice, he sent it onto his IT guy who sent me a tool which was supposed to make sure all prior versions were removed and to smoothly install the new one ... did all that, still got the same problem ...

so if there is anyone there with any insight into this at all I'd be so glad ... as I'm losing business and work with each passing day that I can't get this working.

TIA.

Hi Gaynor,

Sorry to hear about your problems!

Where are you installing the framework from? Is it a direct download, or are you installing it via Windows Update? What OS version are you running? (XP/Vista/Win 7) and what service pack level is it at if any?

I've not had too many problems with installation of the .net framework, but all the applications that I write run against it, so I'm keen to see what the problems and potential solutions to get it installed are!

Hi Doogie ...

It was downloaded from link supplied by client, Download details: .NET Framework 3.5

I'm using XP, and it's SP 1

It goes through adding all the installation components, tells me I can disconnect from the internet, begins installing ... and then gets to the end of the installation bar and hangs.

We were told to uninstall all previous versions which I did using Add or Remove programs and, thereafter, a speical tool sent me by my client ... still the same thing keeps happening.

And the thing I'm ultimately trying to install is Winscribe Client 4.0

I'd be incredibly grateful if you can help me!

Hi again Gaynor.

Hmmm.... XP SP1 is very old - the latest service pack for XP is SP3.

I'd suggest upgrading to that (should be offered via Microsoft Windows Update ) before trying to reinstall the framework. When you are in windows update, once you've upgraded to SP3 and installed all the patches, .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 should be offered as an optional software download, which should hopefully solve your problem.

Obviously standard disclaimers apply - please make sure you have a backup of any important data before applying an operating system service pack, etc!
