Anyone recommend an alternative to Virgin Broadband? I'm on their L package and looking for silmilar service for a similar cost - about £25 per month.

Hi Jim,

How would you rate the current service Virgin provide?? Just interested as i'm in the market for broadband.

Is it for business use? The only reason i ask is that there was a good offer in the paper recently about Talk Talk, this is another one i'm looking into.

Kind Regards

Neil

Hi Jim,

If you are looking for broadband in Falkirk, SamKnows says that your exchange has O2/Be LLU availability.

I have recently changed my (albeit home) broadband from Virgin's cable service to O2's ADSL service, partly due to moving out of a cable area and partly due to disatisfaction with the quality of the connection - I am a very heavy user and was regularly limited by Virgin at various points in the day.

Thus far I have been delighted with the service from O2 and have very fast speeds with no throttling.

The difference between O2 and Be is minimal, and I made the decision based on the price at the time. There is a guy on thinkbroadband.com who regularly updates his comparison between O2 and Be package pricing as they change on a month to month basis (comparing different costs, first x months free, Quidco sign up bonus etc),which can be found here - eg to get the lowest price out of O2 you need to get a prepay sim card and top up £10 every quarter.

I have heard great things about Be as well and I think O2 won some awards recently for their broadband service.

I've also heard many people trash Talk Talk but i've been with then for over two years since the introduction of their Free broadband and never really had much of an issue.

I guess it depends on how heavy a user you are and if upload and download speed are massively important.

Keep us posted Jim on what you decide. :)

I've been with BT (crap!) Tiscali ...which worked fine but mucked me about on billing. And lately with Talk-Talk... (pretty close to 18 months) Since signing up with them it's mostly been tolerable. Speeds never got over 1Meg until recently (now about 2.5) and there are daily drop outs; often quite frequent...

You get what you pay for I figure....

I'm in a non-cable area. and won't go back to BT as they're no better than Talk Talk yet far more expensive; so I too am looking for alternatives..

I had a nice phone call from Talk Talk this morning offering me phone and broadband for about a half of what Virgin are charging. Problem is, i would apparently have to change my phone number - which I've had ever since I started in business.

So, opinions, please? Is it worth losing an old established number to save £20-25 per month?

As a telecom & IT company we have access to a number of different internet service provider’s products and services.
We have opted to sell only a few of these, the decision on what to include on our product portfolio was not taken lightly and was based on a number of factors including the product, the service add-ons, customer help-desk support and a tried and tested escalation process for faults or issues.
We have opted to include BT, Plus-net and Chess Telecom – Our own service is through BT
Happy to discuss options and provide costs and details to anyone interested in either changing supplier or seeking a new service [email protected]
