Still, even if they are low-key, they might still convert, and that's what matters - sometimes, its better to be a big fish in a lot of small puddles than a small fish in a big puddle.

Your defo on the right track, keep the momentum going and someday, perhaps ...

Thanks NorthSouthMedia.........getting a high rank is definitely a long hard road but we'll keep pressing on.........

Stuarty, if you felt I was slagging you off I can only apologies. I was attempting to give you some constructive feedback. I don't believe I've slagged anyone off in this or any other forum but do think challenging people is a great way of opening up discussions to maximise their usefulness.

The posts I've made previously about SEO have been in threads where the authors were soliciting the opinions of non-SEO companies. I have never claimed to be an SEO expert and clearly you and I have different views on how to interpret KEI - we'll just have to agree to disagree.

To your comment about previous work you've done for a company in my industry, I'm pretty sure I know what two companies you're talking about - the one that was taken over and the one that took them over...........HR mergers and acquisitions in Scotland don't happen very often.

You've certainly caught my interest, not least because you don't think I'm ranking at all for any of the top 5 you refer to.

I'm pretty confident that our keyword targeting is going to deliver quality traffic to our site and that they have been selected based on a combination of competitor analysis and keyword research we've had done.

Can you give me an example of just one of these top 5 keywords you managed to get and keep them at position one for?

I got them to number 1 for 5 prime keyphrases (which you dont rank for at all) plus 60+ other longtail keyphrases. In the four years we worked with them, their internet business grew considerably from a one man band to a thriving company with 6 staff. They were bought out last year by a competitor and one of the reasons was to gain their internet presence!

I had a look at your site (Testimonials) and it is the two companies I though it was........I certainly remember them before the takeover and do recall them ranking high......in fact I remember looking at both of them when doing competitor / keyword research. You certainly did a good job for them and the other testimonials on your site are very positive!

For 'hr services scotland' they're still at position 1 (we're right behind them at position 2 but we're also ranking in the top 10 for the more competitive phrase 'hr services' (currently pos. 9)

I'm still keen to see an example of just one of these top 5 keywords you managed to get and keep them at position one for AND that we're not currently ranking for.

It will be good if the phrase "human resources services" has more than 5k searches per day considering the amount of competitors you have for that keyword.
Good luck! :D

Cracked it at last for this keyword phrase - sitting at position 10 today and finally leapt to position one for HR Services Scotland and am holding on for now at least.

Took Stuarty's advice and am using heatmaps to review onsite activity so hopefully can use this to refine on-site layout, etc. As always, lots of useful tips / advice via this forum has proven helpful so thanks all that contributed with constructive feedback/info!! :thumbup1:
