Hi! Quick introduction from me....

I'm Liz Wootton, and I run Human Nature (Coaching and Development). I specialise in personal development for small business owners. My focus is developing the business through developing the person.

Many people don't realised that when businesses fail, it's not usually because they have a lack of talent, or a product or service that no one would buy. In fact, it has far more to do with things that are completely avoidable - lack of planning, poor organisation, lack of clear focus, poor financial management.... and all things that can be addressed through personal development in some way.

No one is perfect - no one starts out a business knowing how to do everything. There's a steep learning curve for many, and the steepest part can be realising that running a business is about doing a lot more than just what you love. In fact, it can be a shock to the system for many when they realise how much time they may need to spend keeping on top of finances, doing paperwork, developing systems, or whatever other tasks fall outside your natural talents or preferences.

So working on yourself to develop strategies that help with managing the tasks you don't enjoy, or developing tactics for moving your business forwards, or just learning new skills that you need, can be the best investment you make for your business.

Human Nature was set up in 2010 to provide personal and company development services, encompassing the skills and experience my husband and I had gained not only in our respective professional fields, him in countryside management, me in 8 years of running my own small businesses, but also using a unique blend of MBTI, performing arts techniques (yep, I went to acting school many years ago!),the natural world, Alexander Technique, Zen, Qigong and martial arts principles, and making them simple to understand, easily accessible, and thoroughly applicable to your business.

We offer one-to-one coaching (via phone, Skype, or in person in Fife/surrounding areas, workshops, and very affordable online training.

Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to participating on this forum!

I love the name of your business - sums up what you in so succinctly.

I'm curious as to what MBTI means?

It's also great having another Fifer on board :p

Hi! Thanks for the welcome! And yay Fife!!

MBTI (thanks for asking) stands for Myers Briggs Type Indicator. It's a tool that helps people to identify their natural preferences, and therefore how they tend to gather information, make decisions, or carry out projects. So for example, it can help you identify whether you tend to gather information by sensing - using what you see and hear, or intuition - getting a feeling about something. Or it can help you to identify whether you are driven by logic, or by feelings.

The great thing about this tool is that it can:
  • Help you become more aware of your own 'way' of doing things, and areas where you might need to develop things outside your natural preferences
  • Help you work out how to make the most of yourself, and your natural strengths
  • Help you discover how you tend to behave under stress
  • Help in your relationships with others, because you become aware that everyone is not the same as you!
  • Help you learn how to make more balanced decisions
In my case, it actually helped me to realise that I was not (as I had previously thought) just a bit rubbish, but that I was consistently trying to do things in a way that didn't suit me AT ALL. I stopped trying to model others' behaviour and instead started working WITH my own nature. It brought about a complete change in the way I regarded myself - my self esteem went up, and I started to find ways to work that were more suited to me. It actually resulted in such a big change in the way I thought of myself that I became brave enough to start my own business. And here I am!
