Not sure how many have been keeping track of this but Google have finally launched their own mobile phone platform called Anfdroid which is set to launch in the UK in November. I think the big thing with this is that it's open source so developers etc can work with it freely.

BBC NEWS | Technology | Google's Android mobile unveiled

I guess some will be nervous of yet another Google application that I guess in some ways can allow Google to gather even more information on our surfing habits etc. What I will say though is does look quite impressive and I wonder if Windows Mobile and Symbian are shaking in their boots :D

I doubt it will make much impact in the whole mobile phone market, I'd agree not exactly in the class of the iphone as yet.

Very true Scott, although it does have the potential to be great I think. What makes the iPhone such a great piece of kit is not its looks or ease of use (although they help) but much more the total integration it offers for those of us using Macs: All my contacts, appointments, emails, bookmarks and industry podcasts are updated and synched simply by plugging it in to my computer - it is truly an office in your pocket.

If Android can achieve a similar level of hassle free usage then it will shine, personally I think this will be exceptionally difficult given the vast spectrum of open source applications it will need to communicate with.
