In the past I've spent alot of time keeping the events calendar up to date with future networking events. This has suffered lately as it's very time consuming using the forum system as each event has ben be done manually.

Is it possible for me to create a basic excel spreadsheet with all the events on it and then through some magic it create an rss feed of these? I don't really know all the technical terms but it strikes me that if this was possible then it could have a lot of good uses.

Thoughts and opinions greatly received :)

,

I'm not sure about going from Excel to RSS, but I do know that it's possible - in fact, easy - to go from Excel to HTML.

If you set up the spreadsheet correctly, you can simply save it as an HTML file, from where you could paste the HTML code into the appropriate place within the forum software.

It's true that that would involve a manual step, which you would have to perform each time you updated the calendar. Then again, Excel supports COM Automation, which means that it's possible for a programmer to write a program that would automate the task - although you would have to decide whether the cost would be justified.

Have you looked at the Google or Zoho calendars? I believe they both have options to embed a calendar in a webiste, which might be of use to you.

Does it have to be from Excel?

RSS feeds are often generated from a mySQL database, on a server. If you were willing to use Access instead, you could feed the information into a mySQL database.

This all strikes me as being a little long winded. I think Mike's idea of imbedding a calender on your website (and forum - if you host it) are better. Or perhaps you could have an event calender stored on the cloud, that you could intergrate with Outlook.

If i'm not wrong you cant do it in Excel however if you can access a programmer you can use your excel file and use it as feeds for RSS, then yes thats possible. It might be small program or something like that.
