I agree :) I'm also sure Google will like it as well as it sees a hyphen as space.

I'd get the .co.uk and .com if possible just to protect it a little more also :)

Very wise

Do the Little Things in SEO Make a Big Difference?

Hi

My point is that it is something that, in general, there is just too much hype about, rather than the fact it makes no difference.

(Managing to keep the temper under control without too much of a problem!)

I agree it makes no difference although with the hyphen it reads better I prefer underscores myself in file names but of course no good for a domain name. The problem with seomoz and such sites the info not always correct. Try reading the Goggle Blogs and Forums for more reliably information.

I'm never sure whether they hypen does affect anything apart from readability.

I shall go with the forename-surname approach.

It's a business website for hair and make-up artist.

I wasn't going to bother with the .co.uk but i think i will now after thinking about it.

Thanks all for the prompt responses!

have a good weekend :thumbup1:

Google reads a hyphen as a space.

Underscores within URL's were considered bad for keyword separation, however now Google also reads these as a space.

In terms of purchasing a domain

I recently started a new forum on the subject of gadgets

The URL gadgetforum.com was take

So I went for the next best gadget-forum.com

How good are these keywords? Well that really is anyone's guess, all I know is the new forum is ranking highly on google.com in just a few days.

gadget forum - Google Search

There does not appear to be any sandbox effect, which is strange as Google reps have stated if you want to avoid the 'box' make sure your sites have lots of good quality content. This cannot be said of my forum as there are only a handful of posts.

Now double hyphens, that's another subject all together.

I think forename-surname.com will be better as it easy to remember the url and also search engine friendly.

domainname.com = domain-name.com = do-main-name.com

Google can extract keywords (do/domain/domain/name) from all these domains. It make no difference to SEO. your sidte could be called brandx.com selling blue widgets and your main competitor called blue-widgets.com. The brandx.com site will always outrank it if it has more quality themed links.
