Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, nice to meet you all!

I have been doing some research into how small businesses in UK are using affiliate marketing (either as affiliates or by setting up their own programs),especially in service-based industries like finance, consulting or B2B.

Most of what I find online is product-focused e.g., Amazon, eCommerce, etc. but I am curious to know:

  • Has anyone here used affiliate marketing to generate leads or clients for service-based business?
  • What platforms/tools worked best for you (if any)?
  • Any lessons learned or pitfalls to avoid?
Looking forward to learning form you all!

Hey Joe, welcome to the forum!

Great question—affiliate marketing definitely gets talked about more in the eCommerce space, but it can work well for service-based businesses too (just takes a slightly different approach).

I’ve seen some success using affiliate/referral models for B2B services—especially when the focus is on lead generation rather than direct sales. Tools like PartnerStack, FirstPromoter, or even simple affiliate links tracked through CRMs can get the job done.

One tip: be crystal clear about what counts as a “conversion” (e.g., booked call, signed contract) and make sure affiliates have the right content/tools to promote you credibly. Trust plays a huge role in services.

Happy to chat more if you’re exploring this route!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the detailed response!

That’s super helpful, especially the tip about defining conversions clearly and equipping affiliates properly. I’ll definitely look into PartnerStack and FirstPromoter as potential tools.

Would love to connect more as I dig deeper into this route!

Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe,

I do this all of the time with some of my clients.

We either work together and put a banner on their website or they email over referrals. It's a great way to expand your network!

All the best Sara
